We welcome you and arrange the transfer to your hotel after arrival at the airport in Colombo
(CMB). Here we review our program with you and answer all of your questions regarding the tour.
The rest of the day is to relax, so you can recover after your flight. Depending on your arrival
time and your preferences, you can skip the relaxing time and start with your tour immediately
by exploring Colombo for example!
After breakfast we drive to the elephant orphanage in Pinnawela. These giants have a daily wash
in the nearby river, this is a real amusing sight to see! You will have plenty of time to enjoy it and
you can feed them, bath them and take a ride on the back of an elephant. Then we continue
towards the fishing town of Puttalam where we see the local saltwinning and stay overnight.
By jeep, we explore the largest nature reserve in Sri Lanka. The park is known for its many lakes.
A lot of different animals are living here, including leopards, elephants, bears and buffaloes. Near
the swamp you will find crocodiles and the Bengal monitor, cobra and python snakes. We stay the night in Anuradhapura.
Today we visit Anuradhapura with its old town, which currently is only inhabited by monkeys.
Anuradhapura is on the UNESCO World Heritage Site and is known for its beautiful ruins. It is a
former capital from the time of the Sri Lankan kings. Polonnaruwa was, after Anuradhapura, the
second capital of the former Ceylon, which is now Sri Lanka. Admire the monuments and the
royal citadel. The latter contains the remains of the royal palace and its audience hall.
We climb the lion rock, a long-deceased volcano of about 180 meters high. In the 5th century it
was a royal complex with the palace on top of the rock. On our way up we pass the various
gardens, the mirrorwall and the murals of the virgins. At the top you can see the ruins of the royal
palace and you will be spoiled with beautiful panoramic views.
Wear appropriate clothing today: no shorts or sleeveless shirts because we will visit the golden
temple! This is on the UNESCO World Heritage Site. It consists of five caves with images and
statues, which represent the life of Buddha. The caves were inhabited as early as 700 BC.
Admire the remains of the royal palace or take a trip through the nearby bird sanctuary where
besides the great variety of winged animals also many monkeys can be seen. You have the
opportunity to visit a real batik factory and the gem museum where you can find out everything
about the mining and production of these precious stones and you can even buy some from the
impressive showroom. Now to the temple of the tooth. This is the main temple of Sri Lanka and
certainly one of the most important temples to Buddhism. In this temple the left canine tooth of Buddha is stored.
You can enjoy a traditional dancing show here and be part of the temples festival.
We drive into the mountains, to NuwaraEliya. On the way we stop at some beautiful waterfalls
and pass through many tea plantations, where we hopefully can see some tea pickers at work.
NuwaraEliya is almost 2 km above sea level, the temperature is cool and fresh. Here we visit a
tea factory and a tea plantation, after which we visit the town of NuwaraEliya, a colonial city,
(NuwaraEliya)，which still has a typical British atmosphere.
After breakfast we take the train to Ella. This trainride is called as a highlight of their trip by many
people. It is the perfect way to make contact with the friendly locals. The train ride takes you
through the beautiful mountain area, through the tea plantations, over old wooden bridges and
high mountain railway stations. Alternately you can see rugged mountains, tea plantations and
waterfalls. The sights are breath taking! In Ella we visit a great waterfall where you can have a
swim in the natural pool and feel what it’s like to stand under the falling water of the splashing waterfall.
Kataragama is a sacred place of pilgrimage in southern Sri Lanka. This place has a magnificent

这个地方有一座宏伟的寺庙，是各种宗教的圣地。你可以观看寺庙访客的整个仪式，或者—visitors or – if you wish – you can get involved in the rituals yourself!
Very early in the morning we take an adventurous jeep safari at Yala National Park. Yala is the
most visited and second largest national park in Sri Lanka. The park has a large population of
elephants, but you can also find leopards, bears and crocodiles. The leopards in this park are the
largest in the world! After the safari we go for a lunch to the lake of Tissamaharama, just like the
locals do and then we visit the charming fishing village of Kirinda with his relatively unknown
rock temple and beautiful beaches. We have our dinner on the promenade of Tangalle, where we spend the night.
Today we take you for a wonderful day at the beach in a quiet cove where few tourists come. This
place is perfect for swimming with its calm waves and fine sand which gradually slopes into the
sea. Optionally, you can visit the Mulkirigale temple or take a kayak trip through the lagoon.
At night we take you to the sea turtles foundation Rekawa. This conservation program aims to
protect the sea turtles in Sri Lanka. Together with your guide, you go to the protected beach to
see how these giants come ashore and lay their eggs.
Galle is an old Dutch fortified town where the influences of the Dutch East India Company period
are still visible. It is also one of the UNESCO-listed cities of Sri Lanka. Once you are inside the
walls of the fort, it seems as if time has stood still. Optionally there are various museums to visit
here and great shopping opportunities.
We explore the last pristine rainforest of Sri Lanka, the beautiful Sinharaja Rainforest Reserve.
With its impenetrable jungle, hanging lianas and the beautiful singing of the many birds this trip
is a true adventure. The forest is home to as many as 830 species of endemic plants and animals,
